BTW I am sad to see the guy and his instructor died. That's sucks, because he had a child and wife.

It was a private jet, not a commercial airliner. I bet he did not have to be screened for lotion and tweasers before boarding.
Double posting is the devil
And what the hell does this have to do with how safe we are
My point is there are so many different ways to get at us, don't you think that all this security screening and everything else they do is just lip service to make us believe we're safer rather than actually safer?
I mean, really, does making people throw away their Gatorade before they get on a plane really make a difference?

Again, what does that have to do with a plane crash that was a complete accident?
And when people are carrying bombs in a @!#$ gatorade bottle...yeah it does make a difference..
^^^^I'll take my chances with the gatorade bomb.
I really do wonder about the pussification of america. If some asshat came up and attacked me with some nail clippers or a box cutter on an airplane, they would be leaving the plain via the pretty blue water in the toilet.
If our forefathers saw us today, i think their response to all of this would be, "what a bunch of mewling pantywaists!"

The only thing every single person from every single walk of life on earth can truly say
they have in common is that their country is run by a bunch of fargin iceholes.
The event just got me thinking, they still can't stop airplanes from hitting buildings where it all started. That's all. Accident or not, the military didn't know that until after it happened, evidenced by the fact they scrambled jets after the fact.
Just makes me think it's all so pointless, all the convenience and privacy we give up..for what?

Actually, I've contemplated this for a few minutes now. What's to stop a terrorist organization from obtaining private pilot's licenses, loading up a plane with some explosives, then crashing into the middle of NYC's Times Square on New Years?
I'm sure there are meticulous screenings when given a private pilot's license, however what about a hijacking instance there? I mean, my sister was able to fly a small cessna when she was 8 years old (albeit she was accompanied by a pilot).

Yeah not to mention that private plane thefts do occur. I just found this because I was curious if that was possible...

I feel the same way about box cutters and nail clippers. Pretty much any knive.
The thing that is different is the is a small aircraft, which from what I read does not require to be in contact with any tower or controller. Even the NY Port Authory said they didn't know where it came from until it had crashed. I kinda agree with you all that if this can happen with out anybody even knowing until after whats to say it can't happen again.
But then again whats to stop anybody at anytime to pack a car/truck/van full of explosive and do OK City all over again.
I totally agree with Keeper and had said it since 9/11 nobody, i mean nobody will take me hostige with a freakn box cutter or nail clippers. If you have bomb/gun I want to see it.
if your flying in controlled airspace you should be in contact with air traffic via radio, and if jet powered you should have a transponder, and both a flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder.
and yes, security is an illusion....is this news to you? the only "safety" you have is situation awareness, and personal defensive measures. and that is no promise of security. best you can hope to do is live your life how you feel is right, and when death comes, be ready for it.
