Dirty campaigning
Tuesday, October 10, 2006 9:33 PM on j-body.org
It doesnt bother me so much that candidates for political office advertise themselves through various forms of media. What bothers me is that for the last few weeks, I have seen hundreds of ads on tv for congressional elections, and maybe 1% of them actually PROMOTE the candidate. Is there anything good about our candidates TO promote? Our the politicians really that bad?

WHY CANT THERE BE ANY POSITIVE ADS INSTEAD OF ALL THIS @!#$ SLINGING??

I guess the question I am posing for discussion is:

Is negative campaigning really more effective? Do people respond better to naming the bad guy rather than the good guy?

Simple, positive ads don't work.

I would figure that too, but in light of all the annoying negative ads, I am much more impressed by the simple, positive ads. I have more respect for that candidate, whether they are red or blue.

Politicians spend a boatload of cash to run an election. If negative ads didn't work, they wouldn't spend the money.

I don't like "smear campaigns", but it's the only way to really find out who's been doing what. All candidates lie their asses off, so you can't believe anything they say. At least the negative ads are based in facts somewhere...

Are you really that naive?

I can name 5 races in Maryland alone off the top of my head where ads have been pulled from the air because they were proven to be outright lies. The parties responsible did the only reasonable thing they could afterwards...they put up MORE ads with outright lies.

Here's the first clue: If "moveon.org" appears anywhere in the ad, it's probably a lie (or twisting of fact). At the other end of the spectrum, if "NRCC" appears anywhere in the add, it's probably a lie (or twisting of fact).

This has been your JZPSAOTD. Knowing is half the battle. Now back to our regulary scheduled programming.

Political mudslinging if anything encourages me NOT to vote for the one "throwing the mud". There are several ads in PA where they have posted all out lies. It irritates me. Tell me what you ARE going to do for the voters and public, not how bad the other guy is

All the more reason to have both candidates square off for Wrestlemaina--at least turn it into the curcus entertasinment act it is.

And that's not bashing Wrestling--they at least admit it is what it is.

After all, i think it would be funny as hell to see Bush and Clinton square away in a lubberjack match with the entirety of congress being the lumbercjacks with Clinton's theme song being "Chubby Chicks and Sodomy" and Bush's being "Dumb-ass country boy"

For Oregon's governor race we haven't seen that much mudslinging that I've heard, but I've been getting annoyed with ads for the current governor taking credit for things he really had nothing to do with, except reluctantly signing. I really wish there was some way to force truth in political ads.

The ship I was on for vacation had a Colorado feed for News info, and there was a lot of mud slinging.
