A hurricane that just wiped out the southern united states, now put tosome real thought into it... with the amount of flooding there was nothing is salvagable, all the drywall and and insulation in houses will be gone, or molding, ect.. every single car is junk, they have all been flooded completely, there is no stores open so you can't buy clotches, food, ect.. obviously you can't go to work because your work has been all but destroyed, yet you still need to pay a morgage on a house that basically needs to be rippe down and rebuilt.....
it may not be as wide spread at the tsunami earlier in the year, or as messed up as Iraq is but its a serious disaster, everythign in that area is lost. And who is there helping us giving us money and surplies ect...... NOONE. With the billions of dollars the US gives to other countries when somethign happens, troops when theres conflict, surplies when surplies are short, with everythign we do for anyone noone does @!#$ for us.
I say @!#$ the world let them deal with there own problems. How about just like 2-3 years of not helping anyone else and getting all our own @!#$ taken care of. It just bothers me we do so much (it is our tax money ect..) and get nothing in return.
Dude I already said this. Check out my post titled "World cries out for help"
I so agree with you tho. But as you will soon see there are some that do not.
At least I know I'm not the only person who thinks this.

There's already another post on this.
There are about 30 different National Red Cross Organisations on the ground in Louisiana, I know there are Canadian Search & Rescue Chinooks and crews in LA, and Venezuela and several other countries have offered what help they can readily give.
You don't hear about it, but it's there.
The thing that you need to understand is that there is a federal agency (FEMA) that has BILLIONS of dollars worth of funding and resources, and it should have been mobilised about 3 days before Katrina made landfall for the second time.

And I won't get into how little of what can be given by the US actually is.
Your country has the infrastructure and cash reserves to bounce back quickly... The difficult part right now is flood control and rebuilding of levy's and re-establishing the ground water pumps to operative.
The interesting thing is kind of thing happened in the 50's in the Netherlands... But, there was no American response... they had to pick themselves up out of it.

GAM, what where doing in the 50's?

I know Canada has hundreds of people on the way (they started getting ready to go the day BEFORE the storm hit with the first 250 or so.. More will follow. You can bet that we will donate the softwood lumber that you guys like to put a 39% tarrif on, and I'm sure our rescue personelle will be there in droves.
This was a terrible disaster and there has been an outpouring of sympathy from around the world. If it's not on your news then I guess you won't see it, but it's there, honest.
Even Chavez offered water, fuel and food.. There's been offers of assistance from all over the world.

yeah.... i think that sums it up
but yet some will still say $#%#^ em....
you know those same times you hear people say "they only show the bad on the news, they dont show the good things that happen in the war where soldiers do this and that"
same thing applies here... they show all the crap, but never the other countries offers....
In my opinion, ^^^ that is art.

I still find it funny that people consider this shocking...
Folks, it's hurricane alley, what do you expect? Tragic, yes, but it would be like me being shocked that sometime in my life, Rainier will erupt and I'll have lava in the living room.
Or someone being shocked and surprises that L.A, San Fransisco, Portland, Seattle, Alaska, Missouri/Illinois/Tennesee and any within the mouth of the St. Lawence seaway has a massive earthquake.
Or someone in Alaska, the Dakotas, Chicago, or may places in canada are dumped under 12 feet of snow.
Or of Wyoming, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, or Iowa, get shocked that they have a tornado.
While i feel for the victims, they should have seen it coming.

The only thing every single person from every single walk of life on earth can truly say
they have in common is that their country is run by a bunch of fargin iceholes.
Unbelievable.. Not only did CNN report that shots have been fired at Chinooks, but again they failed to mention that those Chinooks are aide from outside the US.
We send helicpters and they get shot at... Nice.
I know people are frustrated and scared and hungry.. They have now seen death on a scale that they are unable to handle.. But DON'T SHOOT AT THE RESCUE TEAMS please! We are trying to help.
I would like to go down there myself.. I feel like I should be helping.. I just don't know how I could.. I can get three passengers into my car.. I could take enough water for about 5 people for maybe 2 days worth of water.. Money isn't really needed.. Food water and a ride out .. That's what people need, and I know I can't provide it.. It's frustrating on this end too.
All I can say is that as each day passes I feel more and more sorry for the people who were caught in that storm. Now they are dying of thirst and starvation at the convention center.. Can it get much worse?
My prayers are with you.

Id like to help too. but what hahaha said and the fact that they keep showing footage of people looting that aren't already in a safe area, i dont really see the need for me to help common criminals.

Had there been national guard presence before the hurricane (yoohoo!!!! MR. GOVERNOR!!!! Might have been an idea!!!), this wouldn't have been an issue. pretty soon if someone shoots at rescue crews, the rescue crews will shoot back.
Bollocks to the idiots that took their guns and ammo instead of food and water.

WTF? Weren't they saying before katrina "Oh uh yea see here the problem, uh, we can't um, produce more oil, yea, were uh going as fast as we can..."
I mean, thats great, im just confused. Oh wait, I listened to the government, nevermind.

Fudd: There are about 5000 relief personnell waiting at the CDN border for clearance to go and help.
As of now, there are about 10 Chinook Helicopters from Canadian Maritime Search and Rescue operating in the area.

the funniest part is, by now we all know other places have offered help...
but makes you wonder what about the richer people that live in the US... peeps like bill gates, pro athletes, etc..
anyone got any news on them offering a few million or so?

My thoughts exactly. We have some incredibly rich people in this nation and I don't see people offering any hand. In a perfect society (which I know we are far from) the wealthy are supposed to come to the aid of the less fortunate. Companies are supposed to support their communities and so on, but it doesn't happen. So many lower and middle class people are willing to spare what little they have to help but yet where is the wealthy on this? I know Bill Gates actually has a number of different charities but not sure if anyone blessed with extremely well assets have bothered to help.
And a number of countries have offered help, a big one being Canada. But thanks to some dumbass Homeland Security crap they are setting at the borders.
