This poem was sent to me today by a friend.

Immigrants Poem

I cross ocean, poor and broke, Take bus, see employment folk.

Nice man treat me good in there, Say I need to see welfare.

Welfare say, "You come no more, We send cash right to your door."

Welfare checks, they make you wealthy, Free Medical it keep you healthy!

By and by, I got plenty money, Thanks to you, Canadian dummy.

Write to friends in motherland, Tell them 'come fast as you can.'

They come in turbans and Ford trucks, I buy big house with welfare bucks.

They come here, we live together, More welfare checks, it gets better!

Fourteen families, they moving in, But neighbor's patience wearing thin.

Finally, white guy moves away, Now I buy his house, and then I say,

"Find more aliens for house to rent."

And in the yard I put a tent.

Send for family they just trash, But they, too, draw the welfare cash!

Everything is very good, And soon we own the neighborhood.

We have hobby -- it's called breeding, Welfare pay for baby feeding.

Kids need dentist?

Wife need pills?

We get free!

We got no bills!

Canadian crazy!

He pay all year, To keep welfare running here.

We think Canada darn good place!

Too darn good for the white man race.

If they no like us, they can scram, Got lots of room in Pakistan.


I have had enough. From what I have heard from people who live in the United States this is also a huge problem there.

I am a hardworking taxpayer and this whole situation just sickens me.

I own my own business where I put in anywhere from 55 to 70 hrs a week, this I have been doing for the last 5 years of my life. I work 6 days a week and I have taken 1 weeks vacation in the last 5 years. I work like a crazy man so one day... I will be wealthy, I will be able to give my kids a great life, its something that I want and something I strive for everyday from when I wake up in the morning, to when I go to bed at night.

Yet... Here I am, working my fu(king tail off and we get these lazy pieces of garbage moving into my country, living on my dollar, draining our society. Then to top it all off, they show no decency or respect for us, the people who are is giving them this free ride!

I am not a racist person, I have respect for any individual who is willing to work hard and contribute to this great country. It is getting harder and harder to not generalize or group them together when you see so much negative. I have no problem with anyone who comes here to work hard. The rest... put them back on the boat.

I already know that I'll hear.... well you're white... you're ancestors were immigrants at one time as well. Very true, but... my ancestors came here, started farming the prairie's, from absolutely nothing and were part of building this country into what it is today.

What can we do?

I KNOW that there are tons of people who feel the same way I do. Something has to be done.

Do away with welfare... Survival of the fittest, if they can't cut it too damn bad. If they're living on the streets... its because of decisions that they made somewhere during their life. I do not feel bad for them. No more free rides for anybody, thats natives too.... how long do we have to support them as well? They lost..

Americans... you should be pissed off too, you have no decent health-care system in place, yet these immigrants get the care for free !!! The health-care.... thats being paid for with your tax dollars. Yet you get the shaft? You gotta be kidding me.


I am dead serious about this, there is nobody that I know of trying to stand up and do anything at all about this. Our government should be run by the people, not run over the people. I need ideas, ways to get this ball rolling.

I obviously don't care about being politically correct, nor do I care if I hurt people's feelings. There is a big difference between helping those actually need and deserve help compared to giving hand outs to the lazy who don't even care enough to make something of themselves.

If you would have read what I said.. It was, America not having a good HEALTH-CARE system. Of course our countries have a good welfare system, thats the problem. It's too good. You should start a petition and petition the welfare system.

Get an organization started. One thats speaks out against something like this.


I agree 100% totally. If you choose not to work, you choose to have no money. Whatsoever. No food stamps no health care no welfare. Now if you are unable to work then its a different story.

Because it's not as easy as saying "only XXXXXX gets welfare." In order to distribute it, you need guidelines, and anytime you have guidelines, you have some people who are willing to try to circumvent them.

It's like playing a game. If you can figure out the rules, then you can figure out ways around them. It really boils down to do we help some (and incidentaly get mooched off of by others) or do we help no one and let the people who actually need it suffer? I prefer the former, but that's just me...

Believe me I totally understand the system and why the system is being taken advantage of, thats the problem... we don't have enough people (especially those who are paying for it) speaking out about this. So if nothing is ever said, nothing will ever change.

I have no problem with my tax dollars going to help people who TRUELY need the help... down on their luck etc... but they actually have to be TRYING to make their own life better for themselves.

I DO have a problem with those who do nothing but sit on their arse and have children to get more money... and don't make an honest effort to get their life in order...

I'd say it shoudl be this way... if you NEED help... and can prove that you are doing your best that you can to live... we'll help you. If you can't show you're honestly trying... then sorry about your luck.

I seen people in the Employment agencies even in PA with TRANSLATORS!! And I don't mean hired translators that people looking for work bring in. The people that work there have to speak english... and the majority of these people who don't speak English... have been living here for YEARS and have not learned but like, 5 words...

Bottom line... you come here... need help to get on your feet... fine. You want to learn English... fine. We'll help you get on your feet. But... if you show no improvement as time goes along... BAM you're cut off... sorry for you... here's the ticket to hop back on your boat...

Sounds harsh... but there's literally millions of Americans who need healthcare and can't afford it (I'm one of them) and the government won't help me at all... and there's literally millions of people in the same situation. I'm basically just now working on starting my own business... I can't afford medical insurance. What am I to do? I can't and won't go to the doctor unless I almost can't get out of bed because I can't afford it. Heck it's $50 - $80 just to walk through the door at a doctor's office if I'm already a patient. Initial patient fee? $80 - $200, depending on where you're going. I was just told initial fee for going to this one Dentist was $200. WTF?

I have some things medically that are wrong that I need to get taken care of... why don't I? Can't afford it. Oh and what about the ILLEGAL immigrants getting free health care?? Dude... you're here ILLEGALLY... you BROKE THE LAW... why should we give you free healthcare?? Is that what i need to do to get some medical assistance?? Go land myself in prison?

GRRRRRRRR I could go on and on... but I"m going to stop here. It comes down to this...

I was told once by my old boss, in regards to a friend of his who had needed help:

"If I can see that you're honestly putting forth an effort and trying to help yourself... but need help... I will help you. But if you can't show me that you're making an honest effort... I'm not going to help you."

The fact is that few abuse the system. The vast majority that are on welfare really need it and are doing their best to get off it. There are some who abuse the system and they are the ones that stick out. In all reality the abuse is not as bad as it may seem. I agree that the abuse has to be stopped but we cannot cut the system entirely without any kind of replacement. See, full employment is actually bad for the economy, therefore we need some people to be unemployed, and those people cannot just be cast into the street. A country that doesn't care about it's poor is not a nice place to live. Aside from that, the crime rate would skyrocket.

Immigrants are not always a bad thing. This part of the town was revitalized after Bosnian Immigrants started coming in (1993).

Houses that used to have plywood on the windows are being bought up by people and being fixed up, most immigrants here are hardworking individuals who get no welfare, pay taxes, obide the law and send their kids to college to become professionals.

I am typing all of this while I'm looking out of my window at a girl who I have known since 9th grade. 5 years later she has 5 kids and is sitting on the porch all day smoking blunts and drinking beer. She is American. Born here.

Heh. It's kind of ignorant of some of you people to think this way. It's hard enough learning english when you're an older person and your brain does not have the potential to expand roomwise for another language. I'm not great at putting my thoughts into actual words. Usually they are just strong feelings for me. So bear with my while I try to explain how I feel.

I don't mind illegal immigrants. I'm all for people trying to improve their lot in life. The last few years have not been good for me at all. I work part time and haven't been able to find other employment, my significant other has not been able to find employment at all. I have lived in near poverty (think no water, no electricity, eating out of an ice chest, bathing at friends and families homes). I have been very near to just giving up more than once. It took me a while to swallow my pride and try to get some governmental help. When I finally did, I was given essentially $60 a month for food and nothing else. That's fine. It helped.

What I'm trying to say is that I know how difficult life can be and the people from some of these countries have it way worse AND they have families to support , unlike me. So if they want to come over here and work, so be it. You complain about them taking your jobs.. how many of you are going to leave your comfortable cubes and offices where the most strenuous think you do every day is picking up the box of paper to refill the copy machine, in order to pave our roads for minimum wage? Are you willing to mow rich peoples lawns for $15 a day? In case you haven't noticed, these immigrants are not exactly taking the cushy corporate jobs that everyone wants.

Also, you are going to pay exorbitant taxes for the free Canadian health care to care for some native Canadian teenager with three children and no job. Why not someone else? Unfortunately it's not something you can get away from.

There are lazy people no matter what nationality or immigration status. So please don't group all immigrants, legal or not, into the welfare leech category.

Grow up boy.. There's a huge difference between having a couple social programs and the complete elimination of personal property and the free market.

We belive strongly in democracy and capitolism. Freedoms like mobility and speak. None of these exist under communism.

If social programs are communist then tell me all about your public school system, medicaide, social welfare and social security programs in the US.

The difference between US programs and Canadian is the level of funding, not the priciple behind them.

Of course if you want to move here to get "free stuff" remember that will amount to about $600 per month.. Oooo you're rich now eh? Or how aboput that "free" healthcare? Unless you are very ill or injured, you are out.. So things like headache remedies, you'll just have to pay for yourself.

Abject poverty brings all kinds of problems, like illness (TB for one) and crime (especiall property crime). Giving something to the poor help stave off some of that crime etc. Sowing compassion is certainly not a communist trait.

What everyone needs to understand is the word illegal. If they are illegal immigrants, they have broken the law and should not get anything for free. They should be deported back to where ever they came from. As far as speaking English, I agree fully. I went to Japan several years ago because of my job. While there I was expected to speak Japanese. Very few people spoke very much English. Same is true for here. If you come to the US, learn English. Doesn't matter your age. The country needs to stop bowing to the immigrants and worry more about the citizens that are here. I agree with the post by Neal. Be like Austraila. If you are not sponsered by a company for a job, you don't get in. This is my ranting on the subject.

The same is absolutely not true for here. In Japan, there was an official language for the country, here we respect personal autonomy above continuity. While speaking English certainly would help one in getting a job, it certainly shouldn't rise to the level of being required.

We pretty much are the same way (with the exception of students as well, although Australia has the same exception). The main difference is simply geography. Australia is a self contained continent with the only mean of access is via the water. It's far easier to get into the US by jumping a border, etc. that it is to swim an ocean...lol

^^^ America is not the same as Austrailla. If you want to live in Austrailla, you must first have a job and the company must sponsor you. That is not the same in America. If you want to visit Austrailla, you only get a 45 day visa. After that, you gotta go.

As far as the language, I have no problem with people maintaining there original language. The problem is that English has been spoken here for many years. If you are going to come here to live, learn the language. I shouldn't have to learn yours to communicate with you in my country. I use 'you' not to mean you Pork. Hope you understand what I mean.

What I meant by the "for the love of god speak English!" comment was like one guy said earlier. He went to Japan, he had to speak Japanese to get by. The US should not have to accomodate you here. I have no problems with people comming here and at least putting forth an effort to learn English... that shows they respect our country and want to be here.

Note... I KNOW that no one can learn English overnight. My point was that they at least PUT FORTH AN EFFORT to learn it and to try. I even said that in my post.

And as far as my beef with illegal immigrants getting free money free healthcare etc... my point was THEY CAME HERE ILLEGALLY! We don't get free stuff for breaking the law.

"Oh I'm sorry you just robbed that bank and almost killed that teller... here's free medical and free money to get you on your feet and learn to not break the law anymore." That's what that says to me. You want to come here? Fine. You want to go to school here? Fine. But if you want to come here, and you're not a full time student... be prepared to learn English so you can communicate and WORK just like the rest of us do.

And get a job... and work like the rest of us do. I don't care if that's an executive position at a company, or cleaning toilets... at least work.

Let me ask you something? What is the ratio of Illegal immigrants (in your case spanish people) to Americans who are on welfare?

Also, out of all the bums asking for money during the summer at major intersections, how many of them are illegal immigrants?
