Bought my HHR 10-1-05 and been a work in progress ever since
LS with a 2.2 that came w pioneer stereo, mudflaps, running boards, onstar, ABS and side curtain air bags.
all the car has been modified cept the undercarriage
have added and taken off many things and decided on a old school muscle car look that is lowered and powered
now with a supercharger

I must admit it's cleaner then most HHR's Ive seen, a few things I personally wouldn't do but overall not bad at all.

its a retro car
the interior is painted to make it look like a 50s to 60s car which all had painted metal and fabric and leather interiors. not this cheap plastic they put in them these days.
triple lakes are nice and i love them just got tired of cleaning, rust and
as the old addage says
buy one for yourself and you do what you want to do with it
as for mine i have done and am doing exactly what i want to do with mine and love it.

I think the painted interior might be more likely to achieve the look you are going for if it was sanded smooth, and not the stock texture.
Not my style, but you achieved what you wanted with it, so props to you.
