quick & dirty: does anyone know of a short throw for the delta? (saturn ion specificly)
just bought an 05 and the plastic shifter has too much flex and the throw is almost as long as my friends 04 colorado.

I wonder if the B&M shifter from the j-body Getrag tranny will fit.
Can you get some pics of the stock shifter assembly?
that idea was tossed around a few of the saturn forums, but the responses were skeptical. i'll see if i can get some decent photos once i figure out how to get the console off.

Someone on saturnfans tried it, said it worked, but the ball was a little small so it left some play in the shift, and the bend was different so it placed it up a good ways toward the dash.
Read, then process the info, think logically, than if you don't have a headache afterwards, post your response
The one in the Cobalt SS 272 concept looks identical to the j-body one, though we can't get inside it so I can't comment on whether it feels right or not. I'm sure they put the same stick in though.
Like I said, whether it looks like the jbody one or not, the jbody one, kinda works, but not really.

i seen that after i replied here. the shifter fits after removing the reverse lockout, the problem is the shifter handle is moved closer to the dash. he tried to bend it which it did to a point, then it broke.
here is the thread:

I have a B&M short throw shifter on my 5 speed ION. It works. I bought mine from Mookeeh on ebay (but it is a B&M short throw without the B&M knob that comes with it normally). Works great. There is still a slight amount of play, but that's because the ball that rotates in the collar is SLIGHTLY smaller (by like a couple millimetres). You do have to remove the reverse lockout, but that just requires hammering out the press pin and sliding the collar off. I have pics of the install. If anyone wants them, just email me at saturnd00d@hotmail.com or PM me on MSN Messenger using the same email address.
For a before and after pic of the short throw, go to my cardomain page under the performance section.

***Oh and lastly, the shifter assembly does move up towards the cupholder by about an inch or so, but the shifter cable can be adjusted to go further back if you want. PM me or email me and I'll tell you more, once your installing it.

Thats not a REAL B&M shifter then. Its a fake knock off. The real B&M shifter comes with the B&M knob in a B&M box.
As for the Cobalt and the Ion Redline. B&M is making the shifter as we speak. I have about 50 of them on order. They have a few prototypes out and the real deal should be out with in 8-12 weeks.
Hope that clears some things up for you guys,.
Karo, it is the B&M shifter. I've seen and unwrapped the true B&M from it's box and all. The ball on the B&M is blue chrome plated, but I believe that this guy takes off that blue chrome plating and leaves the stock B&M knob out of the package, because if he included it, people would catch on that it's a real B&M, not his own design. Either way, whether you choose to believe me or not, someone else in the ION community has actually purchased the B&M unit, and placed it into their 5 speed ION as well, and it worked exactly like mine did.
As for the Cobalt SS and redline, your right. These will not work with those versions, but they will work on the 2.2L ecotec with 5 speeds.
karo, if you get one that fits (correctly fits, no mod'ed j-body shifter) you have a sale here.

Not calling you a liar by any means.. just saying most knock offs do not come with the knob.... they are also priced VERY cheap on e bay....
As for the Redline / Cobalt / Cobalt SS I put my order in already with B&M. I should see them in about 8-12 weeks. Prototype is done already. If you need pictures let me know... I dont come on here too offten.. so e mail me if you need anything . . . .
Rksport has a short throw for the Colbalt in the 2005 calalogue made by B&M...
that one is listed as having a reverse lockout, which the ion does not use. a direct bolt in would be perferred for most buyers but if it's fits with 'minor' mods then it wouldn't be as bad. i'll wait to see what Karo gets in stock.
